Education Programs

Integral to every exhibition supported by the Women's Board is an education component that enhances the experience for visitors, with a particular emphasis on outreach to families and youth. The Museum provides art education programs to over 40,000 people annually and is a major provider of visual arts education in the Santa Barbara public schools.

In conjunction with the 2012 installation of Martin Kersels’ Charms, the Women’s Board provided funding for a sculpture competition among local high school and college students.

These ink on cloth landscape paintings, inspired by Bada Shanren’s work included in The Artful Recluse: Painting, Poetry, and Politics in 17th-Century China, were created by 4th and 5th grade students.

The development of an innovative iCubist iPad app was supported by the Women’s Board as part of Picasso and Braque: The Cubist Experiment, 1910-1912.

The Women’s Board has also provided support to several Museum education programs, including Homework/Artwork After School, a program offered at some Santa Barbara elementary schools, and Art in Motion, a multiple-visit art program for homeless or at-risk children and their families in collaboration with Storyteller Children’s Center.
